Job Description

Summary

The individual in this position will perform basic and translational research in the area of HIV persistence and cure. It requires the use of techniques in molecular and cell biology, virology and immunology. The person should possess technical and academic knowledge to follow established procedures, plan and design experiments, develop new protocols, and record and analyze results.

Job Duties

• Designs and conducts laboratory experiments with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
• Selects and determines appropriate research procedures.
• Performs technical laboratory procedures in molecular, cell biology, virology, and immunology including nucleic acid isolation, DNA cloning, PCR, real-time and digital PCR, ELISA, flow cytometry, microscopy, and tissue culture.
• Orders laboratory supplies and equipment.
• Collects, compiles and analyzes data.
• Cleans and maintains equipment and work area.
• Maintains laboratory notebook and records. 
• Assists in the preparation of laboratory reports.
• Operates laboratory equipment.
• Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
• Documents and interprets results of experiments and reports to principal investigators.
• Oversees the maintenance of lab equipment and environment.
• May assign activities to less experienced research staff.
• Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
• Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in basic science or a related field.
