Critical Care Intensivist (MD/DO)

Position Summary

The Critical Care Intensivist provides comprehensive medical management of critically ill patients in the intensive care unit. This role involves the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of complex, life-threatening conditions, coordination of multidisciplinary care, and leadership of ICU clinical teams to ensure high-quality, patient-centered outcomes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care for critically ill patients in medical, surgical, cardiac, or mixed intensive care units
  • Evaluate and manage acute respiratory failure, shock, sepsis, multi-organ dysfunction, and other critical conditions
  • Perform and supervise critical care procedures, including airway management, mechanical ventilation, vascular access, and hemodynamic monitoring, consistent with training and privileges
  • Lead daily multidisciplinary rounds and coordinate care with consulting services
  • Interpret and integrate diagnostic data, including imaging and laboratory results
  • Communicate effectively with patients’ families regarding clinical status, prognosis, and goals of care
  • Participate in rapid response and code teams, as required
  • Provide nighttime, weekend, and on-call coverage per service needs
  • Supervise and educate residents, fellows, advanced practice providers, and nursing staff, as applicable
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation
  • Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and ICU performance initiatives
  • Comply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of an accredited residency program (e.g., Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology, Surgery, Emergency Medicine, or Pulmonary)
  • Completion of an accredited Critical Care Medicine fellowship
  • Board-eligible or board-certified in Critical Care Medicine
  • Ability to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensure
  • DEA registration or eligibility
  • ACLS certification

  • Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for patient monitoring and emergency response

Requirements

Must maintain state certification and/or licensure.
