Job Description
The University of Alabama System (UA System) is seeking applications for the position of University Counsel. This on-site role is based in Tuscaloosa on the campus of The University of Alabama (UA). Reporting to the Chief University Counsel, the University Counsel will provide a broad range of legal services and strategic advice to The University of Alabama and its affiliated entities.
Minimum Qualifications - Demonstrated success in effectively serving a broad, diverse, and demanding clientele
- Excellent legal research, analysis, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience in working cohesively on team projects
- Established ability to exercise independent judgment
- Professional appearance and demeanor
Education/Training/Experience - Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and strong academic credentials
- Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Alabama or must become so licensed as soon as practicable but no more than within eight (8) months of hire
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant legal experience
Responsibilities - Advise on a broad spectrum of higher education legal matters, including litigation, regulatory compliance, business transactions, and employment law
- Provide responsive and strategic legal support to a diverse group of UA stakeholders, navigating complex issues with professionalism, clarity, and expertise
- Other duties as assigned
