Alfred Health

Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services. On 1 January 2026, Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health, a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

  • Casual role available commencing 2026
  • Art Therapist Grade 2, Year 1-4 (AT57-AT60)

The Department

The Alfred Cancer Program is responsible for the overall delivery of a comprehensive cancer service which involves a number of clinical areas and units including Medical Oncology, Clinical Haematology, Bone Marrow Transplant, Apheresis, State-wide Haemophilia Service, Radiation Oncology, Palliative Care and the Victorian Melanoma Service. Alfred Health delivers a comprehensive suite of services which involves a range of diagnostic services, surgical, radiation and oncology therapies. This now includes the Integrative Oncology Unit and Wellness Centre, established in 2024 to provide evidence-based supportive care for cancer patients.

Shape the Future of Integrative Oncology and supportive cancer care.

An exceptional opportunity exists for an experienced Art Therapist to join the Integrative Oncology Unit within the Alfred Cancer Program. This is your chance to be part of an innovative and rapidly evolving service that is redefining how supportive cancer care is delivered holistically to outpatients living with and beyond cancer.

Now in its second year of operation, the Integrative Oncology Unit is located within the Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre (PFMCC) - a purpose-built, multidisciplinary centre designed to provide world-class, patient-centred care. The outpatient unit delivers evidence-based therapies that sit alongside traditional oncology treatments, empowering patients and families to optimise health, wellbeing, and quality of life throughout their cancer journey.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic, collaborative environment and is eager to contribute to the continued growth and development of this exciting new service.

Working collaboratively within a dynamic multidisciplinary team - including nursing, allied health, and complementary therapy professionals—you will contribute to an innovative, evidence-based model of supportive cancer care that integrates creative and integrative health interventions.

You are a qualified and registered Art Therapist with a strong interest in integrative and supportive cancer care. You bring empathy, creativity, and clinical insight to your practice and are passionate about using art therapy to enhance wellbeing, resilience, and healing in people affected by cancer.

You thrive in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment and are eager to contribute specifically to projects related to new models of care, including social and nature prescribing initiatives that promote self-care and holistic health outcomes. You are confident working both independently and as part of a team and are committed to professional growth, research, and quality improvement.
