• Hourly Range: $21.63 - $33.76 (Determined by function, education, experience, and qualifications of the applicant. A 15% salary uplift is provided on top of base salary for positions that are worked in New York City or San Francisco, which is subject to change depending on market conditions.)

Overview:

Bechtel’s internship program was created to cultivate real-life industry interest based on hands-on experience. Many new university graduate hires began their careers at Bechtel as a summer intern. Locations will vary based on project needs and may include Houston, TX, Reston, VA, or various project sites.

Major Responsibilities:

Fire Protection Engineering interns work in multi-disciplinary teams and provide support to some of the most vital aspects of a project: plant equipment, piping, control systems, regulatory compliance, and life safety.

 

Fire Protection Engineering interns may be responsible for:

• Selecting and specifying equipment.
• Preparing detailed system piping and instrumentation diagrams.
• Performing system and equipment sizing calculations.
• Establishing facility design requirements and developing the system safety basis.
• Providing consulting and code interpretations to interfacing disciplines.
• Supporting the development and/or maintenance of fire hazards analyses or fire protection design analyses.
• Reviewing supplier and subcontractor designs and installations.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Basic Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a four-year Bachelor of Science degree program in Fire Protection Engineering at an accredited college or university.
• Completed at least one year of undergraduate studies in the above field.

• Possess the eligibility to work and remain in the US without visa sponsorship, now or in the future.
• Ability and willingness to relocate and/or travel to domestic and/or international project jobsites.
• Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.

 

Preferred Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Master of Science degree program in Fire Protection Engineering at an accredited college or university.
• Completed relevant coursework with a strong GPA.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
